The Multi-faith Multicultural Centre of the Pure Land Learning College Association is sponsoring a Traditional Chinese Culture Exhibition at the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery from 2 - 21 February 2016. Venerable Master Chin Kung will be there to officially open the exhibition on 2 February 2016.
One of the many things that make this exhibition so special is that it is the first of its kind anywhere in Australia. While one might expect to find such an exhibition in a larger city like Sydney or Melbourne, we are fortunate to be able offer one in the garden city of Toowoomba.
The purpose of the exhibit is to showcase 5000 years of Chinese history, specifically traditional Chinese culture. Ancient Chinese society was one that devoted their time and effort to practicing the teachings of the saints and sages. The teaching of morals and virtue was a very important part of a child's education and started when they were very young. Children had to first understand and practice how to be a good person before they did anything else. It was important that a child have a firm moral foundation. They were also taught filial piety, to love and respect parents. Confucius said, "Filial piety is the foundation of all virtues, and the root of all learning." So the very first education a young child received was to develop a strong moral foundation, a strong "root" of morality and virtues.
As part of the exhibition's theme, the Pure Land Learning College Association will be conducting a two-day workshop titled "Understanding Traditional Chinese Culture". The workshop is scheduled 4 - 5 February 2016 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Pure Land Learning College Association in Toowoomba.
